MAURY COUNTY'S COMMISSIONERS HAVE BEEN DISCUSSING THE POSSIBILITY OF RAISING THEIR OWN PAY.  ACCORDING TO THE DAILY HERALD, COMMISSIONERS WOULD LIKE TO SEE AN INCREASE IN THE THEIR CURRENT PAY OF $80 FOR EVERY MONTHLY MEETING THEY ATTEND AND $40 FOR EVERY COMMITTEE MEETING ATTENDED, THE PROPOSED INCREASE COULD SEE THIS CHANGE TO $250.00 AND $125.00. A COUPLE OF THE REASONS SITED FOR THE POSSIBLE INCREASE IS THE WORKLOAD THAT EACH COMMISSION DOES OUTSIDE OF THE MEETING ROOM AND TO MAKE IT MORE APPEALING IN THE RECRUITMENT OF NEW POTENTIAL COMMISSIONERS.  .  IF THE COMMISSIONERS DO NOT MOVE FORWARD WITH THE INCREASE IT COULD BE FOUR MORE YEARS BEFORE IT IS DISCUSSED AGAIN AS EACH OF THE COUNTY'S 22 COMMISSION SEATS IS UP FOR RE-ELECTION NEXT YEAR. THE MOST RECENT CHANGE IN PAY OCCURRED 13 YEARS AGO. THE COUNTY'S ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE IS PLANNED TO PRESENT AND DISCUSS A PROPOSAL ON THE TOPIC AT IT'S UPCOMING MEETING ON OCTOBER 5TH.
