THE LAWRENCE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD MET IN REGULAR SESSION MONDAY NIGHT. THE MEETING STARTED BY RECOGNIZING TEACHER OF THE MONTH, BARBIE MARKS FROM LORETTO HIGH SCHOOL AND SUPPORT STAFF OF THE MONTH, LATANYA SHELTON FROM LEOMA ELEMENTARY.  APPROVED IN ONE MOTION, WAS THE BUSINESS REPORT, THE SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS, SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS, AND SPORTS SCHEDULES. UPDATES WERE GIVEN ON VARIOUS ITEMS, INCLUDING THE ENERGY SAVINGS GRANT, THE 1200 CHROME BOOKS WHICH ARE ABOUT TO BE DISTRIBUTED AT LAWRENCE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL WHICH WILL MAKE EVERY CHILD IN 5TH THROUGH 12TH IN EVERY SCHOOL EQUIPPED WITH A CHROME BOOK. ALSO REPORTED WAS THAT THE COUNTIES A-C-T COMPOSITES WERE UP THIS YEAR FROM LAST AS WELL AS THE GRADUATION NUMBERS.

ONE ITEM FOR CONSIDERATION THAT WAS DISCUSSED WAS THE OLD PROPERTY ON WEST GAINES NEXT TO THE AMBULANCE SERVICE. SOUTH MIDDLE HEAD START IS INTERESTED IN UTILIZING THE PROPERTY AND PLANS TO PRESENT A PROPOSAL TO THE BOARD IN THE NEXT THIRTY DAYS.

VARIOUS POLICES WERE UPDATED AND APPROVED, INCLUDING DRUG FREE WORKPLACE POLICY, SCHOOL NUTRITION MANAGEMENT POLICY AND INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETICS POLICY, WHICH WILL ALLOW STUDENTS THAT HAVE NO OTHER OPTION BUT TO LEAVE EARLY FROM SCHOOL TO ATTEND A SPORTS MET, TO DO SO. BUDGETS ITEMS INCLUDING PEST CONTROL SERVICE AND FUEL BID WERE VOTED ON AND APPROVED. ALSO A REQUEST TO CLOSE A BANK ACCOUNT WHICH WAS RECENTLY FOUND BOTH IN THE BOARD OF EDUCATION'S NAME AS WELL AS LAWRENCE COUNTY DRUG ALLIANCE. THE BOARD VOTED TO CLOSE THE ACCOUNT DUE TO THE LAST ACTIVITY ON ACCOUNT BEING TEN YEARS AGO. THE MONEY WILL BE MOVED INTO A DIFFERENT ACCOUNT.

THE BOARD WILL MEET IN REGULAR SESSION AGAIN ON SEPTEMBER 18TH AT 6 AT THE CENTRAL OFFICE.
