SHEFFIELD CITY COUNCIL MET MONDAY EVENING.

ACCORDING TO THE TIMES DAILY, ONE OF THE ITEMS WAS REGARDING THE HIRING OF A NEW FIREFIGHTER AS WELL AS THE APPROVAL TO START ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS TO ESTABLISH A LIST OF CANDIDATES. THE CITY RECENTLY HIRED ONE FIREFIGHTER AND THE COMMISSION VOTED TO HIRE ONE MONDAY, BUT ACCORDING TO PUBLIC SAFETY DIRECTOR AND FIRE CHIEF, DEWEY KING, THERE IS STILL A NEED FOR MORE. LIKE MANY SMALL CITIES, SHEFFIELD OFTEN HIRES NEW FIREFIGHTERS, PAYS TO HAVE THEM TRAINED, ONLY TO SEE THEM LEAVE AFTER TWO YEARS.

THE COMMISSION APPROVED KING'S REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR MORE FIREFIGHTERS AND TO START TAKING APPLICATIONS. ONCE APPLICATIONS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED THEY WILL BE EVALUATED BY THE CIVIL SERVICE BOARD TO CREATE A NEW LIST TO HIRE FROM.
