FLORENCE CITY PUBLIC WORKS ANNOUNCED FRIDAY THAT THEY ARE LOOKING INTO DOING AWAY WITH GARBAGE COLLECTION IN ALLEYS COME OCTOBER.

ACCORDING TO THE TIMES DAILY, RIGHT NOW THOSE THAT ARE ON THE ALLEY ROUTES, PUT GARBAGE CARTS AROUND THE BACK OF THEIR RESIDENCES FOR PICKUP, WHILE THOSE WHO USE RECYCLING CARTS PLACE THEM IN FRONT. WITH THE PROPOSED CHANGE, BOTH WILL BE PLACED IN FRONT. SEVERAL REASONS HAVE BEEN SITED FOR THE CHANGE, INCLUDING BEING MORE EFFICIENT, PERSONNEL CHANGES AND CHALLENGES IN GETTING TRUCKS THROUGH THESE ALLEYS WHICH ARE IN THE OLDER PARTS OF TOWN. THEY DID ADVISE THERE WILL BE SOME EXCEPTIONS AS THERE ARE A FEW APARTMENT COMPLEXES WHERE ALLEYWAY COLLECTIONS IS MORE PRACTICAL AS WELL AS THOSE RESIDENTS WITH MEDICAL CONDITIONS. THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS AND FURTHER CHANGES COULD BE MADE DURING THIS TRANSITION.

LETTERS ARE EXPECTED TO BE SENT OUT IN EARLY SEPTEMBER TO THOSE AFFECTED.
