NEW DETAILS SURROUNDING THE SHOOTING INCIDENT MONDAY IN GILES COUNTY. ACCORDING TO A PRESS RELEASE, DEPUTIES AND INVESTIGATORS OF THE GILES COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO A SHOTS FIRED CALL ON CEDAR HURST LANE AROUND 3:36 PM. THE SHOOTER HAD FLED THE SCENE IN A BLUE SCION. DEPUTIES MADE CONTACT WITH THE SUSPECT VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY 64 AND HWY 31 AND A PURSUIT ENSUED. THE SUSPECT LED LAW ENFORCEMENT NORTHBOUND ON HWY 31 BEFORE DRIVING THROUGH FIELDS IN THE AREA OF VERTAFORE AND SHEILA FROST DRIVE AND RETURNING BACK ON HIGHWAY 31 SOUTH. THE VEHICLE’S DRIVER, LATER IDENTIFIED AS ADAM TAYLOR, 25 OF TONY, AL, REPORTEDLY WAS DRIVING ERRATIC AND WAS TOSSING ITEMS OUT OF THE WINDOW OF THE CAR. WHILE EVADING POLICE, TAYLOR STRUCK A VEHICLE IN THE AREA OF THE ELKTON BOAT RAMP AND SPIKE STRIPS WERE DEPLOYED BY THP IN THE AREA OF EXIT 1 ON HIGHWAY 31. TAYOR SWERVED TO MISS THE STRIPS AND EXITED SOUTHBOUND ON I-65. THE PURSUIT WAS TAKEN OVER AT THE ALABAMA STATE LINE AND LIMESTONE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE REPORTS THAT TAYLOR EXITED I-65 AT MM 354, WHERE HE STRUCK A DODGE RAM HEAD ON. THE COUPLE IN THE VEHICLE WERE TRANSPORTED TO LIMESTONE ATHENS HOSPITAL. AFTER A BRIEF FOOT CHASE, TAYLOR WAS PLACED INTO CUSTODY. TAYLOR IN CURRENTLY BEING HELD IN LIMESTONE COUNTY AND FACES MULTIPLE CHARGES IN DIFFERENT JURISDICTIONS INCLUDING EVADING, FELON IN POSSESSION OF A HANDGUN AND OTHER TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS. WARRANTS HAVE ISSUED OUT OF GILES COUNTY FOR ATTEMPTED FIRST DEGREE MURDER, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, EVADING ARREST, FELON IN POSSESSION OF A HANDGUN AND RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT. INVESTIGATORS REPORT ONE VICTIM WHO SUSTAINED A SINGLE GUNSHOT WOUND TO THE LEFT UPPER THIGH WAS REPORTED TO BE IN STABLE CONDITION.
