THE COLUMBIA POLICE DEPARTMENT IS INVESTIGATING AN AGGRAVATED ROBBERY THAT OCCURRED OVER THE WEEKEND. ACCORDING TO A PRESS RELEASE, ON SATURDAY AT APPROXIMATELY 10:30 PM, COLUMBIA POLICE RESPONDED TO THE LA SUPERIOR BAKERY & GROCERY, 2213 CARMACK BOULEVARD. TWO HISPANIC MALES ENTERED THE STORE, BRANDISHED A FIREARM, AND PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED A STORE CLERK WHILE TAKING AN UNDISCLOSED AMOUNT OF CASH FROM THE REGISTER, THEN FLED THE STORE IN A BLACK PICKUP TRUCK. THE VICTIM WAS TRANSPORTED TO MAURY REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER, WHERE HE WAS TREATED FOR HIS INJURIES AND THEN RELEASED. RESPONDING OFFICERS WERE ABLE TO IDENTIFY AND LOCATE THE OFFENDER VEHICLE AS IT FLED THE SCENE TRAVELING NORTH ON CARMACK BOULEVARD. OFFICERS ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE SUSPECT VEHICLE, AT WHICH TIME THE OFFENDER VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO FLEE. OFFICERS PURSUED THE VEHICLE A SHORT DISTANCE TO CEMETERY AVENUE, WHERE THE VEHICLE RAN OFF THE ROADWAY AND CAME TO REST ON ITS SIDE. OFFICERS SECURED A PERIMETER AROUND THE CRASH SITE, AND BEGAN TO NEGOTIATE THE SURRENDER OF THE TWO OFFENDERS. AFTER APPROXIMATELY FIFTEEN MINUTES, THE OFFENDER VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE, AND BOTH OFFENDERS EXITED THE VEHICLE AND WERE SAFELY TAKEN INTO CUSTODY. EMS WAS SUMMONED TO EVALUATE THE OFFENDERS, AND BOTH WERE THEN TRANSPORTED TO THE COLUMBIA POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR INTERVIEWS WITH CID. AT THE TIME OF THEIR ARREST, NEITHER OFFENDER HAD ANY FORM OF IDENTIFICATION ON THEM. BOTH OFFENDERS REFUSED TO COOPERATE OR PROVIDE A STATEMENT, AND WOULD NOT PROVIDE INFORMATION AS TO THEIR POSITIVE IDENTITY. BOTH OFFENDERS WERE TRANSPORTED TO THE MAURY COUNTY JAIL, AND ARE BEING HELD WITHOUT BOND PENDING POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION.
