TENNESSEE STATE SENATOR JOEY HENSLEY OF HOHENWALD IS PUSHING A BILL IN THE STATE LEGISLATURE THAT WOULD ALLOW FIREFIGHTERS AND EMTS TO CARRY A HANDGUN WHILE ON DUTY.  HENSLEY INTRODUCED THE BILL ON JANUARY 31ST WHICH WOULD ALLOW EMERGENCY RESPONDERS TO CARRY HANDGUNS WHILE ENGAGED IN THE PERFORMANCE OF OFFICIAL DUTIES AND WOULD ALSO REQUIRE AN ANNUAL COMPLETION OF A FIREARM TRAINING PROGRAM.  HENSLEY REPRESENTS THE 28TH STATE SENATE DISTRICT WHICH CONSISTS OF GILES, LAWRENCE, LEWIS, MAURY, PERRY AND WAYNE COUNTIES.  EARLIER IN JANUARY HE ANNOUNCED THAT HE WOULD RUN FOR RE-ELECTION FOR A THIRD TERM IN 2020.
