THE LAWRENCE COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD MET IN REGULAR SESSION THURSDAY NIGHT. THE MEETING STARTED BY RECOGNIZING SUPPORT STAFF OF THE MONTH, PAM STEPP OF SOUTH LAWRENCE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND RETIRED EDUCATOR OF THE MONTH, MICKEY DUNN.  CONSENT ITEMS WERE QUICKLY VOTED ON AS A WHOLE AND APPROVED BEFORE LEADERS TURNED TO REPORT ITEMS.  SCHOOL DIRECTOR JOHNNY MCDANIEL REPORTED ON VARIOUS GRANTS THE SCHOOL HAS RECEIVED AND ON THE SCHOOL SYSTEMS FOCUS OF EARLY LITERACY AND EARLY POST SECONDARY OPPORTUNITIES.  MCDANIEL WENT ON TO TELL THE BOARD THAT 557 NATIONAL CERTIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED THROUGH CTE PROGRAMS THIS FALL, MORE THAN SOME LARGER SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THE STATE AND THAT SHANNON WATSON, WAS RECENTLY PRESENTED THE STATE CTE PIONEER AWARD WHICH GOES TO CTE DIRECTORS WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED IN UNIQUE AND INNOVATE WAYS TOWARDS PROMOTING AND GROWING CTE PROGRAMS IN THE STATE OF TENNESSEE.  BOARD MEMBERS RECEIVED THEIR DIRECTOR;S EVALUATION PACKETS WHICH WILL BE OPEN ON MARCH 1ST AT 1 PM BY THE BOARD CHAIRMAN.  ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION INCLUDED A PORTABLE RADIO BID IN THE AMOUNT OF JUST OVER THREE HUNDRED TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS, A BID OF APPROXIMATELY SIXTY EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR GLASS DOORS TO LAWRENCE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL AND THE PURCHASING OF LARGE DIGITAL PRINTER TO REPLACE ONE USED BY CTE THAT HAD WATER DAMAGE.  ALL ITEMS WERE APPROVED.  BEFORE THE MEETING ADJOURNED IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT THE BOARD REVISIT THE ACADEMIC PLACEMENT POLICY FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS.  A COMMITTEE WAS FORMED WHO WILL RECEIVE INPUT FROM THE ADMINISTRATION AT EACH SCHOOL AND REVIEW.
