LAWRENCE COUNTY EXECUTIVE T.R. WILLIAMS TOOK TO SOCIAL MEDIA TODAY TO OFFER UPDATES REGARDING PROJECTS THAT ARE IN THE WORKS IN LAWRENCE COUNTY. THE PROJECTS ARE ANTICIPATED TO HAVE LONG LASTING, POSITIVE EFFECTS ON BOTH THE ECONOMY AND QUALITY OF LIFE. WILLIAMS REPORTED THAT THE WEATHER HAS CREATED A DELAY IN WORK ON BOTH THE SOUTHERN TENNESSEE HIGHER EDUCATION CENTER AND ON H AND M BAY INC. IN THE INDUSTRIAL PARK. THE NEWLY ANTICIPATED DATE OPENING DATE FOR THE EDUCATION CENTER IS FALL 2020. WHILE WEATHER HAS BEEN A FACTOR FOR SOME PROJECTS WEATHER HAS NOT AFFECTED PROGRESS FOR CRAIG MANUFACTURING WHO IS CONTINUING ITS WORK IN TRANSFORMING THE FORMER SPEC BUILDING INTO THEIR US HEADQUARTERS BY WORKING ON THEIR OFFICES, DRIVEWAY, PARKING LOT AND REINFORCED CONCRETE FLOORS. IDIADA, A COMPANY THAT OPERATES A MOBILITY PROVING GROUNDS NEAR BARCELONA, SPAIN, IS CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF STUDYING THE FEASIBILITY OF A SIMILAR TEST TRACK BEING LOCATED IN LAWRENCE COUNTY. THE $250,000 STUDY IS FUNDED BY THE STATE OF TENNESSEE. A REAL ESTATE SIGN HAS BEEN PLACED NEAR THE NORTH END OF TOWN AT THE SITE OF LAWRENCE COUNTY'S NEWEST HOTEL, A BEST WESTERN PLUS, ON HIGHWAY 43. THE HOTEL WILL BE CONSTRUCTED ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE PROPERTY WHILE OUTPARCELS FOR RETAIL AND RESTAURANT VENTURES ARE AVAILABLE. TREES ARE BEING CLEARED ON BOTH SIDES OF (OLD) HIGHWAY 64 TO REMOVE OBSTRUCTIONS FROM THE APPROACH TO THE SOUTHERN RUNWAY AT THE LAWRENCEBURG/LAWRENCE COUNTY AIRPORT AND THE LOCAL AIRPORT HAS ALSO RECEIVED A $1 MILLION FEDERAL/STATE GRANT TO REHABILITATE THE AIRPORT APRON, THE AREA WHERE AIRCRAFT ARE PARKED, UNLOADED AND LOADED, REFUELED AND BOARDED. FINALLY, THE CITY OF LORETTO HAS APPLIED FOR A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT THAT WOULD BUILD A 100,000 GALLON WATER TANK IN THE LIBERTY GROVE COMMUNITY. THIS WOULD SERVE 185 HOUSEHOLDS OUTSIDE LORETTO’S CITY LIMITS, WHERE WATER SERVICE IS INTERRUPTED FREQUENTLY. THE TANK WOULD BE BUILT AT THE SITE OF FORMER LIBERTY GROVE SCHOOL.
