THE LAWRENCE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MET FOR A SPECIAL SESSION TUESDAY EVENING. LEADERS ENTERTAINED A SHORT AGENDA IN WHICH A RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE A CONTRACT WITH BENCHMARK COMPANIES TO GRIND, HAUL AND DEPOSE OF WOOD DEBRI THAT HAS ACCUMULATED AT THE LAWRENCE COUNTY SOLID WASTE TRANSFER STATION WAS APPROVED, AS WAS A RESOLUTION TO CREATE A CENSUS 2020 COMPLETE COUNT COMMITTEE TO PLAN AND CONDUCT LOCAL EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVES, PUBLICITY AND PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITES TO INCREASE COMMUNITY AWARENESS AND PARTICIPATION. A RESOLUTION REQUIRING THE SCHOOL BOARD TO SEEK APPROVAL FROM THE BUDGET COMMITTEE AND THE COUNTY COMMISSION BEFORE PAYING EXTRA INCOME TO ANY LAWRENCE COUNTY EMPLOYEE NOT EMPLOYED BY THE SCHOOL SYSTEM WAS ALSO BROUGHT BACK TO THE TABLE. THE RESOLUTION WAS BROUGHT BEFORE COMMISSIONERS AFTER THE RECENT BONUSES THE SCHOOL BOARD VOTED ON TO GIVE TO SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS. AFTER MUCH DISCUSSION AT LAST MONTH'S COMMISSIONER MEETING IT WAS POSTPONED UNTIL TUESDAY NIGHT. PRIOR TO THE VOTE, COMMISSIONER RANDY BREWER EXPRESSED THAT THIS RESOLUTION WAS NOT NECESSARY AND THAT THE SCHOOL BOARD SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO SPEND THE MONEY IN THEIR BUDGET THEY WAY THEY WANT TO AND IF THEY WANT TO GIVE THE SROS A BONUS THEY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO. WITH 6 MEMBERS ABSENT, THE RESOLUTION PASSED WITH 10 FOR AND 2 AGAINST.
