A MAURY COUNTY MAN IS BEHIND BARS AFTER ALLEGEDLY SHOOTING A MAN IN THE CHEST LAST WEEK.  MEDIA SOURCES REPORT, OFFICERS WITH THE COLUMBIA POLICE DEPARTMENT WERE DISPATCHED TO A LOCATION ONE BLOCK FROM THE POLICE STATION TO A REPORT OF A MALE SUBJECT WHO HAD BEEN SHOT IN THE CHEST.  THE SUSPECT, BENJAMIN WEATHERFORD, 34, OF COLUMBIA, WAS ARRESTED AFTER BEING IDENTIFIED BY THE VICTIM AND AFTER INVESTIGATORS FOUND EVIDENCE LINKING HIM TO THE SHOOTING.  WEATHERFORD WAS ALSO IDENTIFED AS A MALE SUBJECT WHO SHOT AT A FAMILY DURING A ROAD RAGE INCIDENT ON JAMES CAMPBELL BOULEVARD EARLY IN THAT DAY.  WEATHERFORD FACES CHARGES INCLUDING FIRST-DEGREE MURDER FOR THE SHOOTING OF THE MAN IN THE STREET AND ATTEMPTED SECOND DEGREE MURDER IN CONNECTION WITH THE SHOOTING OF THE SUV.  HE REMAINS IN THE MAURY COUNTY JAIL IN LIEU OF A ONE MILLION TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLAR BOND.
