Folks in Giles County receiving an extra $600 of federal weekly unemployment benefit expires July 31st.
While the additional funding authorized by the CARES Act is set to expire on July 31st, Tennessee’s unemployment system pays benefits in weeks that run Sunday to Saturday.
The CARES Act states the additional $600 weekly unemployment benefit supplement will end “on or before July 31st,” which is a Friday.
“When claimants in Giles County and throughout Tennessee certify for the week ending July 25th, that will be the last week they will receive the additional $600 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation payment,” said Chris Cannon from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
This means Tennesseans who are still unemployed the week of July 26th through August 1st will not receive the $600 supplement for that week.
