Two fatalities have been reported as a result of a head-on collision today (Tuesday) on Highway 64 West near Richland Trace Market.
Reports show that Lisa Burke, age 61, of Clarksville, was driving a 2018 Chevy, eastbound in the westbound fast lane when Cynthia Hughes, age 39, of Lawrenceburg, was driving a 2008 Dodge in the westbound lane and was struck head-on by Burke.
Both ladies died from injuries received in the 9:40 a.m. accident.
According to Tennessee Highway Patrol, Burke's vehicle rotated counter-clockwise and came to a final stop facing northbound in the westbound fast lane and partially in the median.
Hughe's vehicle came to a stop facing southbound in the westbound slow lane.
Highway 64 West was shut down following the accident for approximately 3 hours and traffic was diverted around the scene.
First on the scene were members of the Giles County Fire and Rescue Squad, Giles County Sheriff's Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and Giles County EMS.
The accident remains under investigation.
