More than 248,000 new unemployment claims have been filed in Tennessee since the end of July, according to data released Thursday morning by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce.

Continued unemployment claims in Giles County are down to 859 and new claims filed were 69.

The department reported the number of new claims for the week ending August 1st was 11,690 which was down from the 19,461 new claims the previous week.

Those numbers are still up significantly from the week ending March 14 when approximately 2,702 new unemployment claims were filed.

The number of continued unemployment claims in Tennessee was 224,093 for the week ending August 1st.
