In a neighboring county, a sheriff's deputy has been arrested on charges of child abuse and rape.
Maury County Sheriff Bucky Rowland said his office and the Columbia Police Department began their investigation after they received “disturbing information” concerning 24-year-old Deputy Hunter Reed.
An arrest warrant alleges a 13-year-old girl told investigators she was raped by Reed a total of 30 times at several different locations in Maury County.
Reed was taken into custody Tuesday and booked into the Maury County jail.
The sheriff added Reed was dismissed from his role with the Maury County Sheriff’s Office.
In Tennessee, rape charges carry a penalty of 30 years in prison and a maximum fine $25,000 if convicted.
