More than 946,000 new unemployment claims have been filed in Tennessee since mid-March, according to data released today (Thursday) by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce.
In Giles County, continued unemployment claims were 149 and initial claims were 50, up from last week.
The department reported the number of new claims for the week ending December 12th was 7,464, which was up from the previous week when 6,886 new claims were filed. The number remains up from the week ending March 14th, around the start of the pandemic, when approximately 2,702 new claims were made.
The number of continued unemployment claims in Tennessee was 44,215 for the week ending December 12th, down by more than 2,000 from the previous week, when there were 46,404 continued claims.
