THE GILES COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON MONDAY. LEADERS ENTERTAINED A LENGTHY AGENDA IN WHICH ALL ITEMS WERE VOTED ON AN APPROVED. AMONG THE ITEMS INCLUDED AMENDMENTS TO THE 2020 - 2021 BUDGET TO REFLECT THE PURCHASE OF NEW EQUIPMENT OUT OF THE HIGHWAY FUND AND FOR EMPLOYEE BONUSES OUT OF THE GENERAL PURPOSE SCHOOL FUND. A RESOLUTION TO APPROVE THE GILES COUNTY SOLID WASTE RECYCLING DEPARTMENT TO ACCEPT A LITER GRANT CONTRACT FROM THE STATE FOR THE 2021-2022 FISCAL YEAR ALSO PASSED AS DID A RESOLUTION FOR LEVYING AN ADDITIONAL SALES AND USE TAX IN GILES COUNTY TO PUT ON THE BALLOT OF THE AUGUST 2022 ELECTION. A RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE THE COUNTY EXECUTIVE TO SIGN A PROPOSAL FOR T-DOT PROJECT RELATIVE TO THE LEWISBURG HIGHWAY BRIDGE ALSO PASSED AND A RESOLUTION SHOWING SUPPORT OF THE 2ND AMENDMENT IN LAWRENCE COUNTY, SAW MUCH FAVOR. OLD BUSINESS WAS THIS DISCUSSED AND ONE AGAIN LEADERS CONSIDERED THE IDEA OF IMPLEMENTING AN IN HOUSE COUNTY BUILDING INSPECTOR, WHICH GILES COUNTY IS CURRENTLY USING THE STATE SYSTEM. AFTER MUCH DISCUSSION, LEADERS VOTED AGAIN TO NOT HIRE A BUILDING INSPECTOR.
