James Clymnes Griffin of Lawrenceburg passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020 at Community Care of Rutherford County in Murfreesboro. He was born in Prospect, TN on March 11, 1940 and was 80 years old.

He graduated from Bridgeforth High School in 1959 where he was president of his senior class. James served in the United States Army, while serving he taught Sunday school. After his time in the army he was a pastor at several churches in Giles County such as, Drivers Chapel AME Church, Chestnut Grove AME Church, Phoenix Chapel AME Church, Lilburn Chapel AME Church, St. Joseph at Waco AME Church, Friendship AME Church, and Powell’s Chapel AME Church.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at 11:00am at Phoenix Chapel AME Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Kathleen Hogan Griffin, sisters, Dr. June McMiller and Joan Brown, and brothers, Bobby Griffin, Charles Griffin, and Freddie Griffin.

Sister, Kathy Sherrell of North Carolina

Sister, Ruth Griffin of Nashville

Sister, Erma Reed of Indiana

Sister-in-law, Betty Griffin of Maryland

Host of nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
