The Giles County High School softball team played its closest game against Forrest this season in the District 12-AA winner’s bracket final Monday, but the Lady Bobcats fell 9-2 for their first loss of the tournament.

The Lady Cats picked up six hits in the game including a two-run homer off the bat of MaKenna Birdsong in the seventh, but the Lady Rockets had already built a 9-0 lead with multi-run innings in the second, fourth and fifth. Anna Johnson and Kylie Hendricks shared the pitching duties for GCHS.

 At the plate, Birdsong finished 1-for-3 with her two-run homer. Ashlyn Kimbrough doubled and scored. Johnson, Hanna Hill, Faith Cross and Hannah McComiskey each also added base hits.

 GCHS will host the winner of Nolensville and Murfreesboro Central Magnet game today (Wednesday)  with a trip to the final against Forrest. 

 

Ben Peoples won his sixth district game of the year on the mound, and the Giles County High School baseball team moved within a single game of the district championship Monday with a 3-1 win over Murfreesboro Central Magnet.

 Peoples struck out 14 batters in 6 innings, allowing four hits, three walks and one earned run. Will Hargrove came in to pick up the save, securing the final two outs, while allowing two hits and adding a strikeout of his own.

 At the plate, senior Lucas Johnson went deep in a 1-for-3 performance with two runs scored. Dylan Carmon added two RBIs in a 2-for-2 performance. Tucker Toone also walked and scored.

 GCHS broke up a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the third with a run before adding an insurance run in the fifth.

Forrest High School Rockets defeated the Bobcats Tuesday 5 to 1, which ended the Bobcat's season.
