University of Tennessee at Martin redshirt-freshman quarterback John Bachus III has been added to the Jerry Rice Award Watch list.

A former Giles County Bobcat quarterback, Bachus has been impressive in his first full season in a Skyhawk uniform. Starting in all nine games, Bachus has led the team to six victories while positioning the Skyhawks into first place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings. The signal caller has completed 57.2 percent of his passes with 135 completions on 236 attempts while tallying 1,890 yards and 12 touchdowns through the air. He has also notched three rushing touchdowns on the campaign.

The Rice Award is named for the legendary Hall of Fame wide receiver and presented since 2011 to the Division I subdivision's freshman player of the year. Bachus is one of 24 players nominated to the watch list.

Bachus ranks second in the OVC in passer efficiency at 145.3 while throwing for 251.3 yards per game.

A national panel of over 150 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries will vote on the award following the regular season.
