The Giles County ‘Lady Cats downed Murfreesboro Central… 49 to 41,


Hanna Hill led the way with 22 points.


The Giles County Bobcats lost a close one to Murfreesboro Central…56 to 50, J. C. Brown and Z. Yarbrough each had 10 points in the loss.

The Martin Methodist Men’s Basketball team saw its four-game win streak snapped in a hard-fought 81-69 defeat at # 18 William Carey last night.


The RedHawks never led in the contest, but went toe-to-toe with one of the premier teams in the SSAC.


Jordan Olison led the RedHawks with 21 points, Big man Dwayne Ward notched 17 points and a game-high nine rebounds in the defeat.


The RedHawks will look to rebound Saturday when they travel to New Orleans to face Loyola.


Tipoff in Saturday’s contest is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Martin Methodist Women’s Basketball team saw its seven-game SSAC win streak snapped Thursday night in an 81-58 loss at William Carey in the SSAC Women’s Basketball Game of the Week.


The RedHawks suffered their first defeat since the calendar flipped to 2019 and lost their first conference tilt since November 29th.


The loss soured a special night for RedHawk junior guard Brooklyn Blanchard, whose 14 points moved her to over 1,000 career points. Blanchard became just the ninth RedHawk to achieve the feat.


The RedHawks are scheduled to meet defending SSAC tournament champion Loyola Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. in New Orleans.

In High School Basketball action…


The Richland Lady Raiders beat Hampshire…77 to 40, Jesse Jennings had a career night lighting-up the nets for 31 points, Riley Neely added 16.


The Raiders also topped Hampshire…64 to 31. Logan Helton tossed-in 22, Daniel Nicholson added 14.

 

The Bobcats lost to Nolensville…66 to 49, no score was reported in the girls contest.

The Giles County Lady ‘Cats lost to Community High School…58 to 36.


The Bobcats also lost to Community…57 to 49.


Giles County will be on the road tonight to take-on Nolensville @ 6pm.

Again Giles County leads the State Of Tennessee Deer harvest with hunters having checked in 3,548 deer since the season opened.


Fayette County’s with 3,371 and Wayne County’s with 3,420 check in second and third.


Meanwhile, the statewide harvest numbers increased this past week to 142,161.


All hunters harvesting deer through the end of the month are required to check the deer at a physical check station.


TWRA will continue to provide information on the state deer harvest as it becomes available.

The Raiders lost to Santa Fe…59 to 56.

 

The Giles County Lady ‘Cats lost to Forrest High…52 to 44, Hanna Hill led the way for Giles County with 20 points, Ari Howard added 9.


Forrest made it a sweep in the nightcap topping Giles County…76 to 69, Walker Dunn tossed-in 16 points, Dakorbian Bellefant added 12 in the loss.

Both teams are back in action tonight taking-on Santa Fe at 6pm.

The ‘Cats and Lady ‘Cats swing back into action this evening on Classic KSR taking on Forrest High @ 6pm.

Martin Methodist Men and Women’s Bowling head coach Bob Learn has announced the elevation of PBA Hall of Famer Amleto Monacelli to the program’s new assistant coach.


Monacelli previously helped the RedHawk programs as a volunteer assistant during the fall semester. He replaces former assistant Dennis Rigney, who left the program to pursue further professional opportunities.


Monacelli, a native of Venezuela, boasts one of the most decorated careers in the professional ranks. Monacelli owns 20 career PBA titles and eight PBA50 titles. He is one of just three international players to ever be named PBA Player of the Year, a title that he won in both 1989 and 1990.


“I am so delighted to begin this new coaching position at Martin Methodist,” Monacelli said. “Coach Learn and I have competed against each other for many years and have coached alongside one another as well. I have a strong desire to share my experiences as a professional bowler, especially teaching the importance of the physical and mental disciplines, as well as overall fitness.”


Monacelli will join the RedHawk Bowling programs immediately. The teams are slated for their first events of 2019 on January 11 at the Tier 2 SCAD Baker Tournament in Brunswick, Georgia.

The Martin Methodist Men and Women’s Basketball teams swept their SSAC home openers last night versus Middle Georgia in the Curry Christian Life Center.


The ladies won the opener 82-66, with five scorers in double-figures. Faith Sherrow and Destiney Williams led the way with 14 each.


The win lifted the ladies to 10 wins overall and a 4-1 mark in SSAC play.

 


In the nightcap, the men cruised to an 85-64 victory.


Junior guard Aaron Shambry scored a career-best 19 points in the blowout win.


The win marked the first SSAC victory of the year for the men, who improved to 1-4 after a slow start.


Both teams will face tough tests Saturday versus visiting Faulkner University.


Tipoff times are set for 2 and 4 p.m. in the CLC.
