WITH THE HOLIDAY SEASON UNDER WAY LAWRENCE COUNTY SHERIFF JOHN MYERS TOOK TO SOCIAL MEDIA TO REMIND CITIZENS OF SOME SAFETY TIPS. BE SURE TO LOCK YOUR VEHICLE AND HIDE YOUR VALUABLES.  PARK AND WALK IN WELL LIT AREAS AND CARRY YOUR KEYS IN YOUR HAND. STAY ALERT TO YOUR SURROUNDINGS. DON'T OVERLOAD YOURSELF WITH PACKAGES. AVOID CARRYING LARGE AMOUNTS OF CASH.  RECOGNIZE THAT THERE IS SAFETY IN NUMBERS.  WHEN SHOPPING WITH YOUNG CHILDREN, KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON THEM.  ENJOY GATHERINGS RESPONSIBLY. BE EXTRA VIGILANT ABOUT LOCKING WINDOWS AND DOORS WHEN LEAVING FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME. IF SOMEONE KNOCKS AT YOUR DOOR AND YOU DON'T RECOGNIZE THEM DON'T FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE TO OPEN THE DOOR. AND IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY DONE SO, GET TO KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORS. NEIGHBORS WATCHING OUT FOR NEIGHBORS AND KEEPING AN EYE OUT FOR SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY WILL MAKE OUR COMMUNITIES SAFER.
