THE SAVANNAH POLICE DEPARTMENT IS CRACKING DOWN ON UNSAFE DRIVERS.  OFFICERS PERFORMED A TRAFFIC SATURATION OPERATION TUESDAY AND DURING THE 4 HOUR PERIOD, 26 TRAFFIC STOPS WERE INITIATED, 8 CITATIONS WERE ISSUED AND 13 WARNING CITATIONS.  THIS SATURATION WAS PAID FOR THROUGH GRANT FUNDS FORM THE TENNESSEE HIGHWAY SAFETY OFFICE.  SATURATIONS WILL CONTINUE AND WILL BEGIN AT RANDOM TIMES TO HELP LOWER CRASH RATES AND COMPLAINTS FROM CITIZENS REGARDING RECKLESS DRIVERS WITHIN THE CITY.  SPD COMMAND STAFF HAVE IDENTIFIED HIGHEST CRASH DAYS AND TIMES AND WILL DEVELOP SATURATION PATROLS DURING THESE TIME FRAMES.
