THE TENNESSEE REDLINE UNVEILED TODAY (WEDNESDAY) ITS NEW TEXT MESSAGE CAPABILITY FOR PEOPLE SEEKING A REFERRAL TO ADDICTION TREATMENT SERVICES. THE 1-800 NUMBER FOR CONFIDENTIAL REFERRALS REMAINS THE SAME AS IT HAS FOR VOICE CALLS IT NOW CAN ALSO RECEIVE TEXT MESSAGES. THE NEW CAPABILITY WILL ALLOW STAFF TO MAKE REFERRALS AS WELL AS FOLLOW UP PHONE CALL REFERRALS WITH TEXTED INFORMATION. IT ALSO GIVES PEOPLE AN OPPORTUNITY TO INTERACT AND OBTAIN INFORMATION AT THEIR OWN PACE RATHER THAN SPENDING A PERIOD OF TIME ENGAGED IN A CALL. ALL CONVERSATIONS ARE COMPLETELY CONFIDENTIAL. THE TENNESSEE REDLINE HAS SERVED AS A REFERRAL SERVICE SINCE 1989 AND IS PROVIDED BY THE TENNESSEE ASSOCIATION FOR ALCOHOL, DRUG AND OTHER ADDICTION SERVICE THROUGH A CONTRACT WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES.
