TOYOTA IS SHIFTING FUTURE PRODUCTION PLANS AT THE NEW MAZDA TOYOTA MANUFACTURING ASSEMBLY PLANT IN HUNTSVILLE AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD A NEW, YET-TO-BE ANNOUNCED SUV. ACCORDING TO A PRESS RELEASE, THIS SHIFT IS IN RESPONSE TO CHANGING MARKET DEMANDS AND A GROWING CONSUMER APPETITE FOR LIGHT TRUCKS AND SUVS WHICH ARE ACHIEVING RECORD SALES, INCLUDING TOYOTA’S BEST-SELLING RAV4. MORE DETAILS RELATED TO THE FUTURE SUV WILL BE RELEASED AT A LATER DATE. THE NEW PLANT, WHICH CONSTRUCTION REMAIN ON SCHEDULE, WAS ORIGINALLY SLATED TO PRODUCE THE CURRENT GENERATION TOYOTA COROLLA WHICH WILL CONTINUE TO BE BUILT AT TOYOTA'S BLUE SPRINGS, MISSISSIPPI PLANT. THE START OF PRODUCTION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN IN 2021 AND HIRING FOR THE NEW FACILITY IS CURRENTLY UNDERWAY.
