DURING A CLOSED DOOR CAUCUS MEETING THIS MORNING REPRESENTATIVE DAVID BYRD TOLD HIS HOUSE REPUBLICAN COLLEAGUES HE WOULD NOT SEEK REELECTION IN 2020. ACCORDING TO MEDIA SOURCES, THE DECISION CAME SHORTLY AFTER 9 BEFORE THE START OF TODAY'S SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE SESSION. BYRD ADDRESSED THE PROTESTS HE HAS FACED AND ADVISED IF HE WERE TO BE EXPELLED OR NOT SEEK REELECTION, HIS CRITICS WOULD WIN AND COULD RESULT IN OTHER GOP LAWMAKERS BEING TARGETED. BYRD HAS BEEN UNDER SCRUNITY FOR OVER A YEAR AFTER BEING ACCUSED OF INAPPROPRIATE SEXUAL CONTACT FROM THREE OF HIS FORMER WAYNE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PLAYERS.
