THE TENNESSEE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION WILL HALT ALL LANE CLOSURE ACTIVITY ON INTERSTATES AND STATE HIGHWAYS FOR THE LABOR DAY HOLIDAY TRAVEL PERIOD.  ACCORDING TO A PRESS RELEASE, CONSTRUCTION CREWS WILL STOP ALL LANE CLOSURE ACTIVITY BEGINNING AT NOON ON FRIDAY TIL 6 A-M ON TUESDAY.  THIS WILL PROVIDE MAXIMUM ROADWAY CAPACITY FOR MOTORISTS TRAVELING DURING THE BUSY LABOR DAY HOLIDAY.  WHILE LANE CLOSURE ACTIVITY WILL BE STOPPED, WORKERS WILL STILL BE ON SITE IN MANY CONSTRUCTION ZONES, AND DRIVERS ARE URGED TO OBEY POSTED SPEED LIMITS.  IN ALABAMA LOCAL AND STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES PLAN TO SPEND LABOR DAY WEEKEND MAKING SURE THOSE ROADS ARE SAFE.  THE ALABAMA LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY IS STEPPING UP PATROLS FOR THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND IN BOTH THE HIGHWAY PATROL AND MARINE PATROL DIVISIONS AS TRAFFIC IS ANTICIPATED TO BE HEAVIER THAN USUAL ON ROADWAYS ANS WATERWAYS.
