A PLEA AGREEMENT HAS BEEN REACHED IN A 29 YEAR OLD HOMICIDE CASE OUT OF GILES COUNTY.  ON THURSDAY, THE 22ND JUDICIAL DISTRICT ATTORNEY REACHED THE AGREEMENT AGAINST MARY ANN HUGHES, 72, OF PULASKI.  MARY ANN PLEAD GUILTY TO THE CHARGE OF VOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER IN CONNECTION WITH THE MURDER OF HER THEN HUSBAND LARRY RICHARD HUGHES WHO WAS REPORTED MISSING ON MARCH 29TH, 1990, AND WAS FOUND ON THE SIDE OF GUNNER RIDGE ROAD WITH GUNSHOT WOUNDS TO THE HEAD SIXTEEN DAYS LATER. A FEW DAYS AFTER LARRY HUGHES WENT MISSING, A NEIGHBOR ALERTED AUTHORITIES WHEN THEY OBSERVED MARY ANN  BURNING A MATTRESS COVER AND TEARING UP A MATTRESS.  INVESTIGATORS RECOVERED PIECES OF THE MATTRESS FOR EVIDENCE BUT THE INVESTIGATION EVENTUALLY CAME TO A STAND STILL.  IN JANUARY 2015, INVESTIGATORS RE-OPENED THE CASE WHEN NEW EVIDENCE WAS FOUND IN THE COUPLE'S FORMER HOME AND AUTHORITIES THEN EXHUMED LARRY HUGHES' BODY TO OBTAIN FURTHER EVIDENCE FOR TESTING IN THE CASE.  MARY ANN HUGHES WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN 2016 AND AS PART OF THE PLEA RECEIVED A SENTENCE FOR TIME SERVED IN THE GILES COUNTY JAIL AND 10 YEARS PROBATION.
