LAWRENCE COUNTY AUTHORITIES FOUND THEMSELVES IN HIGH SPEED CHASE LATE SUNDAY EVENING.  SOURCES INDICATE A VEHICLE WAS OBSERVED BY OFFICERS TRAVELING CLOSE TO 100 MILES PER HOUR THROUGH PORTIONS OF SOUTH LAWRENCE COUNTY JUST BEFORE 7 PM.  OFFICERS GAVE CHASE TO THE SUBJECT ON HIGHWAY 43.  THE INCIDENT EVENTUALLY ENDED NEAR STORY AND LEE FURNITURE IN LEOMA WHEN THE FLEEING VEHICLE CRASHED.  NO SERIOUS INJURIES WERE REPORTED.  ELIJAH WAYNE MARTIN, 41, OF WAYNESBORO, WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY.  MARTIN WAS CHARGED WITH 50 COUNTS OF RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT, FELONY EVADING ARREST, AND RESISTING ARREST. MORE CHARGES ARE EXPECTED AS THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES. OFFICERS WITH THE LAWRENCE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, LAWRENCEBURG AND LORETTO POLICE DEPARTMENTS, AND TENNESSEE HIGHWAY PATROL ASSISTED IN THE INCIDENT.
