WORKERS ON THE THIRD SHIFT AT THE GENERAL MOTORS PLANT IN SPRING HILL WALKED OUT SUNDAY NIGHT AFTER NEGOTIATION TALKS FAILED BETWEEN GM AND THE UAW.  ACCORDING TO MEDIA SOURCES. GM WORKERS TOOK THEIR PLACE ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 31 AT THE GATES OF THE HISTORIC MANSION OUTSIDE THE PROPERTY AND AT THE TWO PLANT ENTRANCES.  THEY WERE JOINED BY UNITED AUTO WORKERS UNION LOCAL 1853 PRESIDENT MIKE HERRON AT MIDNIGHT AFTER CATCHING A FLIGHT BACK FROM DETROIT.  ACCORDING TO HERRON THIS IS PART OF THE NORMAL PROCEDURE AND THAT IT DOESN'T HAPPEN OFTEN AND ALL OF THE GM SPRING HILL EMPLOYEES WILL PARTICIPATE.  GM SPRING HILL HAS ABOUT 3,600 EMPLOYEES IN MAURY COUNTY, INCLUDING 398 SALARIED POSITIONS AND 2,630 HOURLY WORKERS.
