A TRAFFIC STOP LATE LAST WEEK RESULTED IN A DRUG ARREST.  ACCORDING TO REPORTS, A DEPUTY WITH THE LAWRENCE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT INITIATED A TRAFFIC STOP ON PROSSER ROAD THURSDAY AFTER OBSERVING A RED TRUCK CROSSING OVER THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINE.  THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE, IDENTIFIED AS 41 YEAR OLD JOEL BRICE TOWNSEND, APPEARED NERVOUS AND GAVE THE DEPUTY CONSENT TO SEARCH THE VEHICLE.  A BLACK AND RED BOX CONTAINING SEVERAL ITEMS OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA AND A BAGGIE CONTAINING APPROXIMATELY 7 GRAMS OF A CLEAR CRYSTAL SUBSTANCE BELIEVED TO BE METHAMPHETAMINE WAS RECOVERED.  TOWNSEND WAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, POSSESSION OF METH FOR RESALE AND DRIVING ON A SUSPENDED LICENSE.
