TENNESSEE GOVERNOR BILL LEE AND DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMISSIONER BOB ROLFE RECENTLY APPROVED OVER $26.7 MILLION IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANTS, WHICH ASSIST COMMUNITIES WITH INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS, HOUSING REHABILITATIONS AND HEALTH AND SAFETY INITIATIVES. AMONG THOSE TO RECEIVE FUNDS FOR PROJECTS IN OUR AREA INCLUDE: COLUMBIA FOR $150,335 FOR TRANSPORTATION SHELTERS, LEWIS COUNTY FOR $315,000 FOR FIRE PROTECTION, MINOR HILL FOR $137,460 FOR EMERGENCY RESPONSE IMPROVEMENTS AND WAYNESBORO FOR $525,000 FOR WATER LINE EXTENSION. THE ALLOCATION OF FUNDS IS BASED ON PRIORITIES SET THROUGH THE PUBLIC MEETING PROCESS AT THE LOCAL COMMUNITY LEVEL. EACH APPLICATION WAS SUPPORTED BY THE COMMUNITY’S SENATOR AND REPRESENTATIVES IN THE TENNESSEE GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
