THE GILES COUNTY COMMISSION MET IN REGULAR SESSION THIS MORNING (MONDAY). LEADERS HEARD FROM TWO EDUCATORS INTERESTED IN FILLING THE RECENTLY VACANT SIXTH DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD SEAT.  THE TWO CANDIDATES, WILLA SMITH, A RETIRED EDUCATOR AND DEBRA TILLMAN, A CURRENT SUBSTITUTE TEACHER AT BRIDGEFORTH MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HAS TAUGHT IN THE SYSTEM FOR YEARS, WERE EACH GIVEN TWO MINUTES TO SPEAK TO COMMISSIONERS.  TILLMAN WAS ELECTED WITH A VOTE OF 15 TO 6. TILLMAN WILL REMAIN IN THE POSITION UNTIL THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION. REPORTS FROM THE FINANCE DIRECTOR ON GENERAL COUNTY GENERAL FUND, AND CAPITAL PROJECTS, AS WELL AS THE GILES COUNTY HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT QUARTERLY REPORT AND GILES COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT QUARTERLY REPORT WERE ALSO APPROVED.
