GOODMAN MANUFACTURING COMPANY IN FAYETTEVILLE HAS ANNOUNCED THE PERMANENT LAY OFF OF ANOTHER 45 EMPLOYEES AT THE END OF JANUARY BRINGING THE TOTAL NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES UP TO 1430. MEDIA SOURCES REPORT THE LAYOFF IS PART OF A PLAN TO CLOSE THE AIR CONDITIONING FACTORY COMPLETELY AND IS PART OF A LONG TERM PLAN TO RELOCATE MANUFACTURING JOBS TO A NEW INDUSTRIAL FACILITY IN TEXAS.  COMPANY OFFICIALS HAD ANNOUNCED IN EARLY 2015 THAT IT WOULD SHUT DOWN THE PLANT HERE NO LATER THAN 2017 BUT THE TRANSITION HAS TAKEN MUCH LONGER THAN EXPECTED.  AN ESTIMATED 150 WORKERS REMAIN PRIMARILY IN THE WAREHOUSE.
