A TRAFFIC STOP IN LAWRENCE COUNTY LED TO A DRUG ARREST OVER THE WEEKEND.  ACCORDING TO REPORTS, A DEPUTY WITH THE LAWRENCE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT INITIATED THE STOP, SUNDAY,  AT THE INTERSECTION OF SOUTH MILITARY AVENUE AND COX STREET, FOR A REGISTRATION VIOLATION.  THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE, IDENTIFIED AS RICHARD LEE SUMMERS, JR, 38 OF IRON CITY, HAD AN OUTSTANDING WARRANT, AND WAS ASKED IF THERE WAS ANY ILLEGAL ITEMS IN THE VEHICLE OF WHICH HE ADVISED HE WAS NOT AWARE OF.  THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE AND PASSENGER WAS ALSO ASKED AND ADVISED THE SAME.  AFTER A POSTIVE ALERT ON THE VEHICLE WAS MADE BY K-9, A SEARCH YIELDED A BAG CONTAINING APPROXIMATELY 18 GRAMS OF SUSPECTED METH, DIGITAL SCALES, BAGGIES, SYRINGES AND A GLASS PIPE.  ALL OF WHICH SUMMERS CLAIMED. SUMMERS WAS ARRESTED ON HIS OUTSTANDING WARRANT AND FACES NEW CHARGES OF  POSSESSION OF METHAMPHETAMINE FOR RESALE AND POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA.
