A TENNESSEE LAW THAT TOOK EFFECT WEDNESDAY COULD PROVIDE NEW STATE FUNDING FOR VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS.  MEDIA SOURCES REPORT, THE BILL IS A FIRST OF ITS KIND GRANT PROGRAM FOR VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS STATEWIDE WHO WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY FOR A PORTION OF THE NEARLY HALF A MILLION DOLLARS GOVERNOR BILL LEE'S BUDGET HAS SET ASIDE FOR THE PROGRAM.  MONIES RECEIVED THROUGH THE GRANT CAN BE USED TOWARDS NEW EQUIPMENT AND CAN BE USED TO PAY FOR THE LOCAL MATCH NEEDED TO OBTAIN FEDERAL GRANTS. THE GRANT APPLICATION IS NOT EXPECTED TO BE RELEASED FOR ANOTHER COUPLE OF WEEKS THROUGH THE TENNESSEE DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE AND INSURANCE.
