NEW DETAILS TODAY REGARDING THE PURSUIT TUESDAY NIGHT IN LAWRENCE COUNTY. ACCORDING TO REPORTS, A DEPUTY WITH THE LAWRENCE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE TUESDAY NIGHT AROUND 10:30 PM IN THE AREA OF HIGHWAY 43 NORTH IN SUMMERTOWN. THE DRIVER, IDENTIFIED AS DENNIS D. KLEIN, II, FAILED TO STOP AND LEAD DEPUTIES ON A PURSUIT THAT ENDED IN WAYNE COUNTY. DURING THE COURSE OF THE PURSUIT KLEIN ATTEMPTED TO HIT ONE OF THE DEPUTIES WHICH RESULTED IN THE THE DEPUTY FIRING SHOTS INTO THE VEHICLE. THE PURSUIT ENDED WHEN KLEIN LOST CONTROL OF HIS VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY 64 JUST OUTSIDE THE WAYNESBORO CITY LIMITS. KLEIN WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODAY WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF WAYNE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES. KLEIN FACES CHARGES OF AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ON LAW ENFORCEMENT, RECKLESS DRIVING, EVADING ARREST, RESISTING ARREST, VIOLATION OF LIGHT LAW, VIOLATION OF FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND VIOLATION OF DUE CARE.
