DOVER MOTORSPORTS HAS ANNOUNCED PLANS TO REOPEN WILSON COUNTY’S NASHVILLE SUPER SPEEDWAY IN 2021 TO HOST MULTIPLE RACES INCLUDING A NASCAR CUP SERIES RACE. THE TENTATIVE DATE FOR THE RACE IS JUNE 20, 2021. THIS ANNOUNCEMENT COMES NINE YEARS AFTER THE TRACK ORIGINALLY CLOSED IN 2011 AND NEARLY SIX YEARS AFTER THE FAILED SALE OF THE PROPERTY TO NEXOVATION INC. IN 2014. THE FACILITY, OPENED IN 2001, HAS HOSTED MANY XFINITY AND TRUCK SERIES RACES AND SEVERAL INDYCAR RACES BUT HAS LAID DORMANT SINCE 2012. MORE ANNOUNCEMENTS ARE EXPECTED IN THE COMING WEEKS. IN RECENT YEARS NASHVILLE  HAS BECOME A DESIRED MARKET FOR NASCAR AS THEY MOVED THEIR END OF THE SEASON AWARD SHOW TO MUSIC CITY CENTER FROM THE WYNN IN LAS VEGAS. IN ADDITION SPEEDWAY MOTORSPORTS INC. HAS ALSO MADE ATTEMPTS TO MAKE A DEAL WITH THE METRO FAIR BOARD TO RENOVATE THE FAIRGROUNDS SPEEDWAY, WHICH HOSTED THE LAST CUP SERIES RACE IN NASHVILLE IN 1984.
