THE TENNESSEE WILDLIFE RESOURCES AGENCY WILL PARTICIPATE IN OPERATION DRY WATER JULY 3RD THROUGH THE 5TH. ACCORDING TO A PRESS RELEASE, THE EVENT IS A NATIONAL WEEKEND OF BOATING UNDER THE INFLUENCE EDUCATION AND ENFORCEMENT DIRECTED TOWARD REDUCING ALCOHOL AND DRUG-RELATED ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES. OPERATION DRY WATER IS IN ITS 11TH YEAR AND IS HELD ON THE WEEKEND PRIOR TO THE INDEPENDENCE DAY HOLIDAY TO GIVE BOATING UNDER INFLUENCE ENFORCEMENT HIGH VISIBILITY DURING PEAK BOATING SEASON. THE T-W-R-A WILL TEAM WITH THE U-S COAST GUARD AND THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF STATE BOATING LAW ADMINISTRATORS. BOATING OFFICERS WILL SATURATE HIGH TRAFFIC AREAS ON RESERVOIRS ACROSS THE STATE TO CHECK FOR THE USE OF LIFE JACKETS AND OTHER SAFETY PRACTICES ALONG WITH MAKING BOATERS AWARE OF THE EFFECTS AND RAMIFICATIONS OF ALCOHOL AND DRUG USE ON THE WATER. IN 2019 DURING OPERATION DRY WATER, THERE WERE 9 BOATING UNDER THE INFLUENCE ARRESTS ACROSS THE STATE AND ONE BOATING RELATED FATALITY.
