OFFICIALS WITH DAVID CROCKETT STATE PARK TOOK TO SOCIAL MEDIA ON MONDAY TO ALERT PARK GOERS OF HARASSMENT TO WILDLIFE AFTER AN EASTERN BOX TURTLE WAS FOUND PAINTED WITH NAIL POLISH. ACCORDING TO THE POST, BOX TURTLES HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN AND AND THEIR SHELLS SERVE AS A PROTECTANT. AS A RESULT THE TURTLE WAS TAKEN FROM ITS HABITAT FOR REHAB AND WAS RETURNED TODAY. FORTUNATELY, PARK RANGERS WERE ABLE TO FIND AN APPROXIMATE AREA OF WHERE THE TURTLE WAS FOUND, WHICH ASSISTS IN THE RELEASE AS BOX TURTLES DON'T TRAVEL FAR FROM THEIR TERRITORY. PARK GOERS ARE REMINDED TO ENJOY THE BOX TURTLES, APPRECIATE THEM AND HELP THEM ACROSS THE ROAD BUT TO NOT REMOVE THEM FROM THEIR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT.
